Thailand Cambodia Vietnam Tour 7-Day Itinerary

If you are a travel enthusiast and planning to embark into multiple-countries-adventure, the Thailand Cambodia Vietnam Tour or Indochina Tricity is a great start for you. For seasoned travelers, they say it is the best training for first timers- combination of air and land cross- border experience. 

Here’s the 7- day itinerary that we have followed during our first Thailand Cambodia Vietnam Tour. 

Please note, activities here are just the most popular ones. There are a lot of window hours because it is our mantra to make sure that our daily activities are more relaxed, flexible and with enough room to really enjoy each place we visit. Also, I hate exhausting itineraries! I travel to really enjoy, chill and have fun. 

You can always add more activities daily if you are the type of traveler who wants to maximize your days or you want to get yourself dead-tired. For me, I always make sure there is a room to get lost, wander, explore and learn more about each travel destination thoroughly. 

By the way, you can follow this itinerary in reverse sequence- Vietnam first, then Cambodia and your last country to visit is Thailand. Though there will be some adjustment to be made on the time because of shuttle and flight schedule availability. 

Day 1 of Thailand Cambodia Vietnam Tour

Departure to Bangkok. Choose the earliest flight possible or morning flight, so that you will arrive before noon time. This way, the whole afternoon of the first day of your Thailand Cambodia Vietnam Tour can be used to explore places that are very accessible. 

Check- in to hotel. Book your accommodation in hotels near the train system- BTS/MRT and central Bangkok area. Based on my experience, the best districts are Khaosan, Sukhumvit, Siam, Silom and Hua Lamphong. 

Chatuchak Market. It is the largest weekend market in the world having more than 15,000 stalls and divided into 27 sections. You can find here stores that sell almost everything- all goods we can think of, from antiques, clothes, cosmetics, food and drinks, to souvenirs among others.

If your visit in Bangkok coincides during weekdays, alternatives to Chatuchak Market are the Siam Square, MBK and Siam Paragon. You can also visit Pratunam Market and Indra Square. 

Khaosan Road Nightlife. Your Bangkok experience is not complete without trying the night life in this popular street. Coined as the backpacker  hub, it is full of guesthouses and hotels, bars and restaurants, different stalls selling street foods and the fun- noisy crowd. 

Day 2 of Thailand Cambodia Vietnam Tour

Grand Royal Palace. Undoubtedly the most famous landmark in Bangkok. It is dazzling with spectacular edifices. Once the official residence of the monarch of Thailand, today it  continue to draw visitors in awe because of its beautiful architecture and intricate details in each building that manifest the creativity and craftsmanship of the Thai people.

Emerald Buddha. Located in the historic centre of Bangkok, within the grounds of the Grand Palace, also known as the Wat Phra Kaew. It is regarded as the most important Buddhist temple in Thailand and enshrines Phra Kaew Morakot or the Emerald Buddha,  the highly revered Buddha image meticulously carved from a single block of jade.

Wat Pho. The temple of the reclining Buddha, directly south of the Grand Palace. The temple is first on the list of six temples in Thailand classed as the highest grade of the first-class royal temples. The temple complex houses the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand, including a 46 m long reclining Buddha.

Wat Arun. Also known as the Temple of Dawn. It is one of the most remarkable visual identities of Bangkok. The imposing main tower is 104 metres tall and decorated with porcelain bits, then it is surrounded by four smaller prangs. 

Other Temples:
Wat Saket or the Golden Mount or Phu Khao Thong. Popular for its gleaming gold chedi. 

Wat Chana Songkhram close to Khao San Road, this is an ancient heritage, a small temple and popular for its shady grounds. 

Wat Mahathat is the headquarters of Thailand’s largest monastic order and Vipassana Meditation centre.

Travel guide: When visiting the Grand Palace and the Temples, please follow the dress code. Men must wear long pants and shirts with sleeves. If you’re wearing sandals or flip-flops you must wear socks. Women must be similarly modestly dressed, no see-through clothes and bare shoulders. 

Bangkok National Museum. It houses the largest collection of Thai art and artifacts.

Bangkok Democracy Monument. This is the western-style symbol of Thailand’s adoption of democracy and liberty.

Night Food Market. The most popular is the Talad Rodfai Ratchada. It is a festive food bazaar full of  stalls selling street foods, snacks and full meals. Fill your belly with sumptuous food. Whatever is your trip, you find it here. Like delicious seafood, noodles, fried insects, desserts, and of course, authentic Thai cuisines.

Ayutthaya Day Tour. Ayutthaya, a city around 80 kilometers north of Bangkok, Thailand was once the capital of the Kingdom. It was once a prosperous and wealthy trading center until its downfall in the 18th  century. Today, the old city’s ruins is one of the major tourist spots in Thailand, the Ayutthaya Historical Park, a famous archeological site where temples, monasteries, statues and palaces of the once thriving era can be found.

Day 4 of Thailand Cambodia Vietnam Tour

Travel to Siem Reap. Schedule of buses going to Siem Reap from Bangkok is usually in the morning and travel time is usually around 8- 10 hours and this includes the time crossing the border and going through immigration. Best to book your transportation service from a reputable bus company like Giant Ibis. During our trip, we personally experienced their service and it was superb plus they can pick you up from their partner hotels. If not, the assembly place is just in Khao San Road. 

There are also other companies with good reviews like the Transport Co. (Nattakan) departing from the Morchit (Mochit) / Northern Thailand Bus Station. 

Check in to the Hotel. You will arrive in Siem Reap between 4pm to 6pm. Again, best to book your hotel at the city center. There are different types of accommodation in the city, from hostels to 3-4 stars hotels. 

Pub Street. The haven for backpackers and here, you can experience Siem Reap’s  nightlife. The area is home to clubs, bars, and restaurants, offering treats from Khmer cuisines to Western specialties. The place is unique as if you are in a street in a big city because of the glowing neon signs of the establishments.

Night Market. Just within the area of the Pub Street, you will find the night market where you can shop souvenirs. Bring home products made by local artists such as silverworks, T-shirts, brass sculptures, jewelry, handbags, paintings and many more.

Day 5 of Thailand Cambodia Vietnam Tour

Sunrise Tour Angkor Wat and Other Temples. Angkor Complex is one of the principal archeological sites in the world and the largest in operation. It houses the undeniably outstanding remains of Angkor Wat, the main temple and other famous temples with sculptural decoration like Angkor Thom, the Bayon among many others. It is a UNESCO site and protected by different programmes because of its importance in the history of mankind.

Travel to Ho Chi Minh. Bus schedule going to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam is at night and the travel journey is approximately 14- 16 hours. However, it is possible it can take longer depending on the road condition, the season or border processing time. We booked our bus through bookmebus.com. There are different bus classes you can choose from. There’s the business class, sleeper bus and many others. 

Day 6 of Thailand Cambodia Vietnam Tour

Arrival in Ho Chi Minh. We arrived at around 10am the next morning. The delay was at the border because of long processing in Vietnam immigration plus the heavy traffic once you enter the city of Ho Chi Minh. The drop off point of the bus company we have chosen is in District 1, where the majority of the hotels are located and almost all must visit places in the city. 

Check in to the Hotel. Just walking distance from the drop off point, we had difficulty finding our hotel because it was in an alley. So when you book your accommodation, make sure that it is the main street. Google Map was no help during that time. We tried asking for directions from locals, unfortunately, they have a hard time speaking in English. Good thing there was this nice lady who approached us and asked which hotel we are looking for and she assisted us. 

Saigon Post Office and Notre Dame Cathedral. Rest for a couple of hours then grab lunch. Different food stalls are available in the streets and they serve delicious food and at very affordable prices. Book your ride through ride hailing app Grab going to these iconic must see attractions or you can opt to just walk if it is nearby your accommodation. This time, Google Map can be of help.

Independence Palace. Just a few blocks away from the cathedral, is the Independence Palace. Prepare to pay for the entrance fee in order to gain access.

Ben Thanh Market. Again, you can book your ride through ride hailing app Grab going to the iconic market or you can opt to just walk there since using Google Maps is effective. Find here different items like souvenirs, textile and many others.

Day 7 of Thailand Cambodia Vietnam Tour

Cu Chi Tunnel Half Day Tour. Get a glimpse on the past of Vietnam as you learn about its history during the Vietnam War. Vietnam’s guerillas used Cu Chi Tunnels by climbing into the underground tunnels that used to be rigged with booby traps, which played a crucial part in the fight. It served as a base for the Viet Cong, the National Liberation Front. It included almost everything needed for the life of the Viet Cong, where the local soldiers and residents used to eat, sleep, work, cook and even go to school. Have an unforgettable experience as you explore the underground tunnels and get to know what life was like for the Viet Cong soldiers.
